Monday was the start of a special 20-game series to be extensive until July 28 July with the participation of the 60 best baseball players in Guantanamo, after having completed the Provincial Series with the participation of 10 teams representing each municipality, in which the Salvador ranked first, followed by Guantanamo and Manuel Tames.
In this event athletes were divided into three teams: Salineros, Cholateros and Agricultores, selected through the results of the players´ performance quotient system.
This is the prelude for the Guantánamo team selection to participate in the 50th National Baseball Championship.
Last Wednesday was the third game of about 20 to be held, in which Salineros defeated Agricultores 4-3. Pitcher Sandro Torres was the winner against opponent Orioldis Cobas.
In the overall standings Salineros ranks first with three games won and one lost, Chocolateros second 2-1 and Agricultores third with three games lost and not a single victory.
This scenario for this event is mainly the Guantanamo Nguyen Vantroi Stadium Guantanamo and some other localities of the province.
For Salineros figure the World Cup athlete Georbis Duvergel, Andrés de la Cruz, Luis Sanchez, Douglas Lafarge and Jose Luis Moulin. For Agricultores play the pitchers Frank Navarro and Lander Moreira, besides Bismay Santos, leader in home runs in the province with 17 at the past National Championship and the Guantánamo team’s regular catcher Roberto Borrero.
Chocolateros takes to competition pitchers Roennis Elias and Eglis Leliebre, adding Onelio Founding, Rafael Ramirez and Dainer Moreira.
Pitchers Dalier Hinojosa, Alexander Rodriguez, Dunier Colón and Joilán Cerce, one of the most productive players at the last Cuban championship, comprise the national pre-selection to participate at the University Tournament in Tokyo, Japan to be held in July and August.
