Playoff began in Cuba, and although the game was held at the Granma Mártires de Barbados Stadium, the houses in Guantanamo vibrated after the timely Bismay Santos´ homer, who put the Indians ahead and gave them the desired victory 6-9 against Granma on the first playoff game in the 50th National Baseball Championship.
Guantanamo scored 2 in the 2nd inning against the Granma star Ciro Silvino Licea, when Leonelkis Escalante hit single to left and drove Joenni Southeran. Then in the fourth Roberto Borrero push the second run through Vismay Santos´feet.
Granma did not shrink, and at the bottom of the fifth Alfredo Despaigne homered against the right-hander Dalier Hinojosa, to take advantage of one run. Granma was winning 6-5, but the unexpected home by Guantanamo with the bases loaded at the 9th inning gave them the final result 9-6.
Ciro Silvino (11-6) lost the game and the victory went to Guantánamo Dailelr Hinojosa (9-3).
Offensively, for the local Ramon Tamayo outstood, with four hits in as many official turns at bat, including a homer, with two RBIs and two runs scored and first baseman Yordanis Samon (5-2) and outfielder Urmaris Guerra (3-1).
Guantanamo won by means of the designated Santos, double and homer, five RBIs and three runs scored, plus Escalalante (4-3, 1 2B, 2 CI), Dainer Moreira (5-2, 2 CA) and first baseman Southeran (3-1, 2 CA, 1 CI).
In summary Guantanamo hit 13 times, with an error, while Granma hit 10, with a defensive blunder.
In another eastern game Ciego de Avila defeated Villa Clara 5-3. It was won by Yadir Rabbi.
The second quarterfinal Gtmo-Granma take place today at 8: 00 pm in the same stadium, to win four of the seven scheduled to qualify to semifinals. Similarly Villa Clara and Ciego will face from 5:00 pm at the second sport facility.
