cuban east´s got its two qualified for chess finals

IMG_4392FIDE Master Yaniela Phorgas and Grandmaster and national multichampion Zirka Frometa, won their inclusion for the eastern region in the Cuban Chess Finals, scheduled for Holguin province in the early months of 2013.

Phorgas finished first in the qualifying tournament held here in Guantanamo, with eight and a half points, followed by veteran Frómeta, who scored seven points and a half of ten possible.

Dailen Diaz, registered the best performance for the representation of Guantánamo, occupying the seventh place with three points and a half in an event attended by eleven athletes from the provinces of Santiago de Cuba, Granma, Holguin, and the venue.

The semifinal round for women’s chess in the eastern zone, sheltered at the Guantanamo Computer Palace, offered only two tickets to the final stage of the National Championship of the sport.
